Gingivitis and Periodontitis

The early stage of periodontal disease is called gingivitis, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed during brushing and flossing. It is caused by plaque and tartar(dental calculos) that accumulate on the teeth.

When you forget to brush and floss, bacteria stay on the teeth and form a film called plaque. After a while, the plaque hardens into tartar and can spread below the gum line, and makes it difficult to clean your teeth.

When periodontal disease is severe, it is called periodontitis; in this case, the gum can become detached from the tooth, the bone can be lost and the teeth can become loose or even fall out.
